 Overview
A cctv system represents a significant investment. CCTV systems realize
their maximum potential only when they are properly designed, installed
and maintained. TESC is a unique surveillance provider - we oversee the
installation of our dahua cctv systems from start to finish, using only
pre-approved installation contractors. 90% of cctv systems are of
little use and become a cost center to your budget.
Return On Investment (ROI)
Investing, without at least making an effort to forecast the return, is
not smart business. Ask your cctv system integrator to show you the
return on your investment at the end of the year - and you'll get a
blank expression! How do you measure the return on your cctv system?
All cctv systems should be installed for well defined reasons. The
reasons should be established by some tangible measurement. Store
shrinkage was R50,000.00 pm - after installing CCTV system R25,000.00,
10 parcels went missing monthly, after installing a cctv system - we've
only lost 2. These are tangible measures on which ROI calculations may
be based. The reasons for the selection and installation need to be the
correct ones, addressing the 20% of events in your business, which
cause 80% of your losses.
TESC follows a systematic process in identifying design objectives, and
rating them. TESC staff have over 20 years in advanced Risk Analysis
& Assessment Processes, Safety System auditing, Loss control
management, Systematic Cause Analysis Techniques and various other loss
control principles. Very few cctv integrators understand loss
identification and reduction as well as TESC does.
A cctv system from TESC will be focussed on the major loss causation
events to your business. Will identify critical, and maximum impact
surveillance areas - rather than just blanket coverage. Will provide
tangible measurements against which ROI can be determined. Will meet
the requirements of any reputable loss control program.
Surveillance
Levels
There is a simple explanation as to why most cctv systems are worthless
, when you need to recognize or identify targets from recorded images -
Laziness!
Many integrators , focussed on price - buy generic cctv cameras from
wholesalers and offer them to you - as is.
There will never be a surveillance project where every camera demands
the same focal length, night vision range, resolution.
Most integrators, don't have a wide range of cameras to select from,
and don't have any formal training, or understanding of focal lengths.
Integrators try to sell you whatever the cheapest wholesaler has
available.
TESC on the other hand, custom designs your cctv system. We have an
entire factory partner with over 2500 different camera models, just
waiting for our production order. We have dedicated buying agents, and
a detailed manufacturing network throughout Asia, and the USA - their
job is to source whatever it takes to get the job done. The TESC
model means we are not limited by available choices - we supply you
with exactly what is needed for your cctv system.
When you get an integrator telling you their camera can see 70m in the
night, because it has 154 led lamps -but it only has an 8mm lens, you
realize how little, many suppliers actually know about focal length.
The furtherest useful surveillance you will obtain with a 8mm lense is
30m - and thats in the DAY!
Other considerations
In order to make their cctv system quotes as lean as possible, many
integrators don't even include;
- Lightning & Surge Protection,
- Environmental protection housing - for storage and
equipment,
- best fit solutions,
Lightning
South Africa has a very high lightning incidence. Many cctv systems are
routinely destroyed by lightning. Strikes kilometers away can damage
your equipment. Such a destructive event could ocur, even the day after
your system is installed.
Some providers offer special surge protective plugs with R15,000.00
warranty, others offer expensive inline filters. The truth is that
lightning protection starts at your DB board. Surge Protection plugs
are hazardous, they could set fire to your premises - if installed
without the proper class equipment also installed at your DB board.
Most TESC customers are surprised when we ask them to read the fine
print on these "lightning prufe" plugs. As for the in-line filters -
well thats a budget solution, comprehensive lightning protection is a
lot more complicated than that. The TESC solution includes an SABS
approved lightning protection specialist's property survey.
Environmental
Protection
Most cctv equipment has an operating range of up to 40 or 50 degree's
celsius. South African environments can easily reach 30-39 degrees
alone, add the operating heat, and you easily exceed the rated design
tolerance of your equipment. By exceeding the rated tolerances,
warranties are invalidated.
Dust is a major concern - not only with cctv but also PC's. Just
placing the recording equipment in an office , on the floor somewhere
is undesirable. Damage due to dust, in many cases, will invalidate your
warranties. The TESC cctv sytem includes a security rack which;
- Keeps your equipment under lock & key,
- Regulates the internal temperature to which your
equipment is exposed,
- Conceals major electrical switching under lock and
key, so the cctv systems cannot just be switched off,
- Removes harmful dust,
- Is aesthetically appealing.
Best Fit Solutions
TESC won't sell you an H.264 system if you don't
need remote access, or extended recording. We won't try to sell you
a cheaper Mpeg4 system if you need extended recording and internet
access.
We won't try to sell you 1/4" CCD's or 330 TVL cameras - if you need
identification, or recognition level surveillance. TESC will match the
Standard 420TVL, 1/3" Sony CCD to your application - increase to 480TVL
if you need higher resolution.
TESC will rarely sell higher than 480tvl resolution to any,but the
highest level of surveillance requirement. Very few monitors, and dvrs
can reproduce beyond 480TVL. The added expense, of high resolution, is
wasted - unless you have a high end dvr and professional cctv
security monitor.
Equipment
TESC has been a leading, official
supplier of Dahua surveillance products, since 2006. Very few have the
detailed product knowledge we do - when it comes to using the Dahua
equipment in the field, in real surveillance systems.
Many integrators use no name, oem equipment. Many integrators try to
conceal the manufacturing source. Most integrators use and lose the
most recently available, cheap, no name brand equipment which the
latest wholesaler has on his shelf.
TESC uses a globally recognized brand. The Dahua equipment was selected
for use in the 2008 Beijing olympics. Dahua has been named no. 34 on
the A&S authoritative Top Global Security Companies list. Our
